OUR SPORTS PROGRAMME

Sport and competition is an integral part of the GSNZ experience and there is a range of activities and sports that our learners engage with on a daily and weekly basis. As well as having outside professional sports people from Taranaki Rugby, Cricket and Basketball coming in and assisting with our regular P.E program there is a range of weekend and weekday sports our community engage in.

During the summer months Touch rugby is a major focus with Junior and Senior Teams competing in town and at Corbett Park weekly. We have strong links with the local Pukekura Tennis Club and Ōakura Junior Sports Club where cricket, netball, basketball, hockey, football, surfing, surf lifesaving and equestrian clubs are available to foster skills and community links. The club is made up of students from schools in the surrounding area.

During the winter season our learners are busy playing Netball, Volleyball and we are now developing a large presence at the local Ultimate Frisbee competition. Again because of our relationship with the Ōakura Sports club we have access to strong rugby and football teams based out of the Kaitaki Rugby Club at Corbett Park in which our learners regularly join and excel. Jetball, a junior netball for y1 -y3, teams are offered for our youngest learners to develop basic skills and meet with the community on the weekends with a focus on fun, skill development, fair play and resilience.

Sports At Green School NZ

Matua Mark, Sports Coordinator

“Even if we don't have a team at school we can join the Taranaki clubs. I play for The Wolverines.  There are a few of the Green School NZ learners in my team and we get to know other kids from around Taranaki.”
